  • ekolali – igor – not not fun

    out of stock

Malmö multi-instrumentalist Mattias Lagerkvist spent time in short-lived neo-Harmonia trio Cosmic Letters (alongside Martin Herterich of Sand Circles) but since 2012 his primary focus has been swirling, long-form tape delay odysseys issued under the name Ekolali. Previous releases have explored minimalist solarium drone (Vår Värld I Fossil, via Skeppet’s Kosmisk Vag imprint) and tropical kraut psychedelia (Tropisk Hägring) but Igor is his first inspired by, and centered on, guitar. A single 40-minute piece, the track flowers from ghostly electric haze into a glowing wormhole of looped hand-drums, phasing textures, and Space Echo-soaked riff abstractions, before receding to blank, haunted gauze for a full five minutes, only to gradually return for a final swooping arc of percussive kosmische freefall. In scope, depth, and functional hypnosis, the recording stands apart and above his prior creations, hinting at unknown pleasures in future days. The title “comes from the name me and my girlfriend gave a limping hooded crow; he lived in the parks of central Malmö, and we spent last summer feeding him.” Artwork designed by Britt Brown. Mastered by Alex Nagle.

  • matthew barlow – product – self released

    out of stock

High-bias c30 with full color double-sided j card and labels. Each tape gets a unique, handmade insert with hand-written recording notes on one side, and a vintage ad cutout on the other. Home dubbed, one tape at a time in real time. Album art features original photographs by Richard Auxillo (Los Angles, CA) – created exclusively for this release.

“Product” is the third tape release from sound artist, Matthew Barlow. Being a sonic meditation on consumerism, the arrangement (comprised of two 15 min pieces) shifts back and forth from warm synths and cold, vacant textures.

All sounds and instrumentation were created from processed field recordings taken at a local grocery market. The entire piece is an improvisational performance, recorded in one take, with minimal editing in post.

    Best enjoyed with headphones.

  • jeffry astin – Bhsaaveaegi – elestial sound

    out of stock

For over a decade now Jeffry Astin has been quietly tending to his labor and label of love: Housecraft. The cassette imprint has over 150 releases to it’s name, many of them from Astin himself under various aliases (Xiphiidae, Digital Natives) or in collaboration (Tricorn and Queue, Mannateas). Astin’s love for the cassette format runs deep, so when he feels compelled to cut something into vinyl instead we should pay close attention. Following other excellent releases on NNA Tapes, Aguirre Records, and Beer on the Rug, Astin makes his Elestial Sound debut on September 23rd with Bhsaaveaegi, an album he began recording back in 2001 and almost lost forever in a near fatal harddrive crash. The master files were miraculously recovered like some ancient and priceless artifact and preserved for the time being in a limited run vinyl edition.

  • corum – magic mirror – psychic sounds

    $15.00 Add to cart

“Corum constructs a mind-melting psychopharmacological vision wherein rhythms and melodies ooze into and out of focus. He brings a psychedelic atmosphere, one not culled from a traditional sense, but of a deeply innate ability to transform a space sonically creating a more spiritual, or visceral affair.” “This year sees the release of Magic Mirror, a new solo collection that finishes out a loosely themed trilogy of solo records. The new LP is world music in the broadest sense of that term, incorporating drum rhythms from Africa, instrumentation from the Middle East, and very Western electronic elements. A welcome celebratory and hypnotic vibe, which will perfectly match the incantatory spirit of his work.” – ROBERT HAM, Portland Mercury

Final album of the Beguiling Isles Trilogy (Beguiling Isles / Effigy Mounds / Magic Mirror).
