  • kanelbjørn – udkants-tripper – metaphysical circuits

    $8.00 Add to cart

Hereby, the debut full length from Denmark’s Kanelbjørn (yeah, we’re proud of the “ø” here – see, also, Fugleøen, Grøn, Øjerum, and… I’m probably inadvertently overlooking a few others.) Incidentally, Kanelbjørn (‘cinnamon bear’) is Danish for ‘ruby tiger.’ Phragmatobia fuliginosa. That’s a moth.

Well, there are, certainly, complex wings on this masterful mindbender! Multi-faceted yet focused, “Udkants-tripper” spans twelve compositions, encompassing spliff-er-iffic splashes, tech-pop textures, dub-infused wizardry, and lo-fi sci-fi which – to these ears (and wings) – are, simply, perfection.

  • rawmean / S/H/A/R/R/P/S & Ragged Lines – lemma/ thought processions – metaphysical circuits

    $8.00 Add to cart

Brooklyn’s rawmean shares with us, here, an extension of/companion to his brilliant late 2015 full length “Tutulemma” ( mjmjrecords.bandcamp.com/album/tutulemma ), in the form of a seamless, rousing three-track set, titled… “Lemma.” Loops build (upon) harmonies, rhythms, and… go go go! – the supposed boundaries of his own brands of minimal psych-funk, danceteria drive, and sciencewave sophisti-synthery are broken, in barely 14½ minutes. Powerflow.

On the obverse, S/H/A/R/R/P/S (Jessy Kendall, of Lewiston, Maine) and Ragged Lines (me, of here) ‘pseudo collaborate,’ heading/shattering in different – many – directions. A mirage collage of caustic hot takes, the foundation of “Thought Processions” scrapes the surface of territory similar to rawmean’s, though with undeniably/unavoidably alternate results – spurts of synth-gaze glaze, hip ‘n’ hopped-up beats, found sound, and… discretion, chill-advised.

  • V5N 2G8 / k..k. / micromelancolié – Git Hubris / Séptimo Subsuelo de Sikuris / Performance Patterns and Relationships – metaphysical circuits

    $8.00 Add to cart

Essentially three “albums” on one tape – hereby, the label’s longest ever (physical) offering. Opening act V5N 2G8 wrings out mangled samples and disturbances, with looped psychedelic aggression, for an unobtrusive 13½ minutes of “fun.” Out of the foyer and into the grand ballroom, the former Vancouverite is usurped by Buenos Aires native k..k., who gets the rest of the first tape-side to work his magic(k). A single, 29 minute monsterpiece unfolds, as an ultra low frequency hum drone climaxes into feedback-laced slow-fi huayno hazecraft. Wow.

The reverse contains a slew of brilliant untitled short(er than usual, mostly) format synth/rhythmic compositions from Micromelancolié. Hazy diamonds, pitched down 8-bit-esque whimsy, warm technocentric bliss-scapes – not surprisingly, this set is among our favourite Robert Skrzynski works. (’tis also logical, then, that a tour of Poland with German lo-fi synthesizer luminaries Guenter Schlienz and Hering und seine sieben Sachen was recently undertaken. Two tracks from this tape are incorporated into Micromelancolié tracks for a tour cassette, by the way

  • northville tunnels – take him to detroit – metaphysical circuits

    $8.00 Add to cart

Take Him to Detroit” completes Jared Fordyce’s triumphant 2014 Northville Tunnels trilogy. Pre-apocalyptic post-house pumpin’ gives way to spatial noise/drone washes/visitations; dense, bleak, lovely – certainly representative of a still proud Motor City of Industry Winter World. Conversely, the program’s other half flickers forward with brighter, Kosmische-like modular sweetness… evoking past label highlights from low(er)-fi synth minimalists Gardener, Guenter Schlienz, Strange Mountain, and Roman Ego, as well as – of course – NT’s previous two. Guest cover imagery by Phil French.

  • t0rphy – phagestructure – metaphysical circuits

    $8.00 Add to cart

A lowercase “t” + a zero (sometimes/previously a capital “o”?) + rphy… spells petit triomphe. “Phagestructure,” an analogue assemblage of biochemical electronic warfare/peacefare, is captained by one Phil Rodrigues. Plasmic improvisation with unaffected instrumentation, amid glitchy swaths of ambient fallout. Gratifyingly, the field recordings (a concept already heavily represented on Metaphysical Circuits) and found sounds here are creatively manipulated as well. Hereby, oddball worlds form; deep listening required.

  • jon claudio – misti – metaphysical circuits

    $8.00 Add to cart

Metaphysical Circuits’ go-to South American sorcerer of sound resurfaces!

Play “Misti” For Me puns aside, you’ll witness – on this splendid new achievement – driving (Kraut? Out?) rock-influenced morsels (samples of real bass and drums?!), jazzy inflections, and galactic dub, next to liquid discotheque paradigm shifters.

Present(ed), too, are the equally magical types of subtly detailed downtempo explorations that characterized Jon Claudio’s previous tape for us, the comparatively lo-fi “Tocusour.”

  • amalgamated – no way out – metaphysical circuits

    $7.00 Add to cart

Our new favourite supergroup/collective concocts, here, side-long lysergic collages of lovefest chillaxation.

Indeed, what amalgamations!: cavernous effect pedal invocations in concert, above and beneath home-studio-centric four-or-more-to-the-floor pseudo Kosmische bliss-nosis. Ayurvedic breaks and/or beats, solar synth flares and pop riff proceedings egress from musical marshscapes and marvellous misshapes. It’s 2005 vs. 2013, with 2178 refereeing.

Welcome (or welcome back) to ‘Moonbase Amalgamated.’ No way out… but we don’t really want to leave anyway.
