  • Lieven Martens – coral groups – edicoes cn

    $8.00 Add to cart

    I. Coral Groups is a live concert piece for 32 channels with an undefined duration. Various found objects, electronics, piano vignettes and field recordings are put into relation with each other in an improvised way, creating a panorama that’s both random and directional. I presented this piece between early 2013 and spring 2016, in Finland, Sweden, Japan, Mexico, United States, Italy, Germany, Denmark, United Kingdom, Belgium, among other. The excerpt here has been recorded close to the final performance of the piece, when things started to come together quite naturally. Recorded live at Gold+Beton Gallery, Köln, Germany, november 2015. II. Four Pages is a sonata. The seed of this work is a composition for piano notated on … four pages. Electronically transformed into particles in F-sharp Major, tucked between murmurous silences of a budget-friendly analog filter. Summer 2016.

  • ssaliva – mercury coast – not not fun

    $8.00 Add to cart

Belgian shapeshifter Francois Boulanger has traversed several spheres of liquid electronics and mutated beat music across his half-decade of activity as Ssaliva, but in the winter of 2010 he holed up in an old historic house in the town where he grew up, Chaudfontaine, with a partially broken Tascam 4-track to pursue a different muse, on a different wavelength: “The place was super cold. Everything was recorded straight to tape. I was bored using a laptop so these tracks were a reaction to that, I guess.” The 22 grainy guitar instrumentals comprising Mercury Coast slide through a fractured prism of moods, reveries, daydreams, and deliriums, from paranoid surf (“Borys,” “Health”) to opiate lullaby (“Cloud Gap,” “Hyperreal,” “Weav”) to smeared haze (“School Rave,” “Trave”) and beyond. There’s a naked, intuitive feel to the songs, like sketches born from smoke and sleeplessness, tracked at strange hours. The frayed fidelity further enhances the album’s aura of cloaked emotion, altered states, and raw truth. Shortly after the sessions Boulanger and two Brussels associates, Dynoo and Nosedrip, launched a label (Surf Kill) to release the recordings but for unremembered reasons nothing materialized. NNF is honored to finally share this overlooked outlier to a wider world. Artwork and design by Dieter Durinck. Mastered by Alter Echo.

  • garde forestier – – field hymns

    $6.00 Add to cart

Garde Forestier is vaguely sinister 80’s hold music a lunatic French guru turned into mediation loops. Or perhaps it’s a Casio workstation gone on the fritz but becoming sentient, all whilst dealing with the breakdown of its physical body and the unfairness of bothering with such a burden at such a momentous time. Maybe Garde Forestier really is a front for a Danish trio of nuns who built up these tracks in the brief moments free from the rigors of monastic life. Perhaps we are witnessing the first stirring of a post-vaporwave work unbound and unmoored from its stable of lockstep clone acolytes. Perhaps.

Garde Forestier is from Tours, FR

  • strom noir – the white colour of the clouds – cosmic winnetou

    $8.00 Add to cart

very first intention was to come up with the tape release consisting of tracks made by using solely guitar resonances. so few tracks are based, almost purely, on the sound fragments which were recorded in a way that i started to record couple of seconds, even minutes, after the last tone was played. on the other hand, there are “more regular” tracks which are based on a simple melody, repeated during the entire track. i have always had some kind of fondness for such tracks, there is some kind of thrill which puts listener into an expectation of the change which, at the end, does not come. finally i’ve recorded tracks that represent some kind of conjunction of what one can hear on the album, abstract fragments as well as melodic parts. as the result, the white colour of the clouds represents probably the most conceptualized release I have ever made.
masterfully crafted reverberating guitar drones that keeps no soul untouched. everybody needs some drone pillow from time to time, don’t you?

  • bary center – no stars – mjmj records

    $7.00 Add to cart

The second installment in our spring series is a fantastic, and slightly out of character, Bary Center album. Under the moniker Bary Center, Mark Williams has been releasing burnt up, knockout techno at a furious pace on a number of fine labels (Crash Symbols, Skrot Up, MJ MJ, Speaker Footage, Gnar Tapes, Headway). Even with such an impressive discography we can honestly say this is probably our favorite album that he’s put out yet (and he’d agree). No Stars finds Bary exploring the deepest depths of dub, psych, techno, ambient and noise, while still somehow maintaining an effortless flow throughout it’s nearly hour long play time. Bary has a knack for drawing out a groove or texture to its fullest fruition, rewarding an attentive and thorough listen, but at the same time creating a sonic environment where you can just let it ride and zone out.

In M. Williams’ words – “I wanted this album to feel like just one day, so I tried to build a snapshot of all the feelings and scenarios that a person goes through in a single day – the relaxing parts, the intense parts, the hype parts, the dark parts, the lighthearted parts. I wanted people to press play and by the end of the album be able to connect each track to a part of their day. We get so crazy focused on tomorrow and the big picture that we often forget that just making it through the gauntlet of shit life throws at us in a 24 hour period is quite an accomplishment in itself.”

All sounds created by Bary Center / Mark Williams in Huntington, WV.
Guitar on tracks one, two and three performed by Michael Berry.
    Mastered by Cyrus Shamir.
Packaging designed by Nico Stephou in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Released by MJ MJ Records in Minneapolis, MN in May 2016.
