Volume I is the debut album from Flore Laurentienne, the vessel of Canadian composer Mathieu David Gagnon. Calling upon the rugged wilderness of Quebec to augment a series of orchestral synergies, Volume I, originally released at the tail end of 2019, will be offered in new form and foundation for wider appreciation on March 4, 2022 via RVNG Intl. and Costume Records.
To celebrate the occasion Flore Laurentienne shares a new piece of music: “La fin et le commencement.” Based on a simple and cyclical form, the piece unfolds in a long ascension meant to reproduce a Shepard tone, a sound that creates the auditory illusion of an infinite rise. Performed by a string orchestra and punctuated by piano interventions that accentuate a infinite impression, Flore Laurentienne embarks on another beautiful journey with “La fin et le commencement” meant to be listened to, in Gagnon’s own words, “unhurriedly and loudly, if possible.”
